Star Light, Star Bright

I wish I may, I wish I might, wish upon this star tonight” “twinkle twinkle little star how I wonder what you are, like a diamond in the sky, twinkle twinkle little star.”

As children we are taught these nursery rhymes and we think these were just fun little rhymes that hold no importance in our lives. As children we didn’t see the hidden message behind these rhymes. As a child, you probably never made the connection between stars and people, that people are like stars, each unique and beautiful in their own ways.

“Twinkle Twinkle little star, like a diamond in the sky” While comparing the star to a diamond you’re saying that you are a diamond. When thinking of a diamond, what’s the first thing that comes to your mind? Unique. beautiful? When u make that connection it’s the same as saying you are beautiful. Each one of us is unique in our own ways, and that’s what makes us beautiful.

Most people feel the need to change to blend in to be like everyone else, but if you’re like everyone else, who are you?

Think about it, if all the diamonds were the exact same; would they really be worth as much as they are right now? The same way, if everyone started following one person, we’d all be the same, no uniqueness. Everyone would be boring.

Of course, there’s always going to be people who ask you to change. “Change this. Change that” They’re always going to try to change you, take your uniqueness away.

You probably think that you have to listen to them as they’re your so called friends. They’re not. A friend is a person who genuinely cares about you; people that hang around you because they like you for you! They like your personality and wouldn’t want you any other way. Anyone who tries to convince you to change yourself isn’t your friend.

And, you don’t have to give in; you shouldn’t have to change yourself to be what they want you to be. You were born original, don’t die a copy. If people don’t like or accept who you are, that’s their choice. But it doesn’t lessen your value, worth or beauty.

Some people are afraid to be themselves, afraid that if they don’t fit certain expectations, they’re going to get rejected. Well, would you rather live your life being someone you’re not? You’re not going to be happy doing that. You’re going to be miserable. Being yourself does not mean you are selfish and it doesn’t mean you don’t care about others. Being yourself means you like who you are. Being yourself means living life how you want to live it, regardless of other people’s opinions. And it means you respect yourself.

At least once in their life people asked to change themselves, and we think that we have to change ourselves to make these people like us. If someone doesn’t like you for who you are they aren’t worth it. Everyone needs to learn this otherwise you’ll fall into this trap.

What happens when you fall into this trap?

It threatens your self-esteem and self-image. Never once does it help a person. Overtime that person begins hating themselves, who they are and how they look. They end up changing everything about themselves to try to fit in.

Eventually they start hating this new person they’ve become. They start becoming ashamed, self-conscious and block out loved ones. They become so afraid of getting rejected and abandoned that they don’t let anyone in.

All this happens because they lose who they are. They forget that they are stars, beautiful and worthy in their own way. We all need to remember that sometimes wishes do come true, that every time you look above and see stars, they are staring back at us, thinking we’re beautiful. Staring back and forth seeing diamonds when looking upon the other, they see it, now it’s our time to see it too.

When you feel alone, when you feel you’re not good enough, when you feel you have to change yourself for someone else and be someone you’re not. I dare you to look up in the sky, notice the stars, shining bright like diamonds, Diamonds which are each unique in their own way.

Remember this, No matter what anyone tells you, you’re beautiful just the way you are. Be who you are. Be like Giraffe and stand tall. Don’t be ashamed of who you are. Let yourself shine like the star you already are.

Some people struggle with how to be themselves and be true to themselves. To be true to yourself means to act in accordance with who you are and what you believe.

If you know and love yourself you will find it effortless to be true to yourself. You cannot be true to anyone else until you are true to yourself. Begin by not being afraid to be who you are!

As difficult as it may seem at first, have the courage to accept yourself as you are, not as someone else thinks you should be. Do not take action or pretend to be someone else for the sake of gaining acceptance.

Being true to you takes courage. It requires you to be introspective, sincere, open-minded and fair. It does not mean that you are inconsiderate and disrespectful of others. It means that you will not let others define you or make decisions for you that you should make for yourself.

Be true to the very best that is in you and live your life consistent with your highest values and aspirations. Those who are most successful in life have dared to be themselves and creatively express themselves.

I’m going to conclude by saying, Remember, you’re a star beautiful and worthy in your own way.
